Venice, Italy Day 2 (Part 1)

Friday, July 13

Our hotel in Verona was basic but clean and comfortable and within an easy walk to the old area.  A continental breakfast was included which kept us going for most of the day.

We set off with our friends about 9.30 to explore the old town.  First on the list was Juliet's House and balcony.  After getting the necessary photos we ventured on through the Piazza dei Signori.

We headed to the river via Santa Anastasia church which was quite beautiful inside.  At the river we stopped at a cafe for refreshments and a rest.

At the bridge.... Ponte Pietra.... Peter decided to climb to the top of the hill on the other side to take in the view over the river to Verona.  After walking to the top he discovered a funicular railway that he came down on.

After the bridge we started to make our way back to our Hotel but not before seeing the Vescovado Duomo.

After collecting our luggage we walked to the train station for our 2pm train back to Venice.

We arrived back into Venice around 3.30pm so we headed for another bar for more refreshments before getting the people mover back to the ship.

All in all a very successful two days off the ship.... one more day before a much needed sea day.

Tomorrow is Ancona... a new port for us.
