Brisbane is our first port day.
Brisbane is perched on the banks of the Brisbane River and is the capital of the state of Queensland.... became a municipality in 1859 and a consolidated metropolitan in 1924.
Population (est 2014): 2.2m
Climate: Subtropical
We woke to a very wet dismal day which was not ideal for our planned activity of walking!
Our only commitment for the day was to meet up with some of our cruising family who live in Brisbane and unfortunately not cruising this time.
We could see on our TV (which is our virtual window) that we didn't need to rush to get off the ship or out of bed as it was bucketing down. It was around 11.30am when we eventually braved the elements and headed for the supermarket to buy a few things that we forgot. We also added to our wine supplies with our allowable two bottles and Peter even took a 6 pack of coldies on with no questions asked.
We then caught up with our friends before heading back to the ship to see the show Encore which was scheduled as a matinee at 3.15pm. I would have to say that this is one of the best shows that I have seen on any ship. The guest opera singer joined the ship in Sydney for 3 performances before disembarking in Brisbane... unfortunately not to be repeated for the rest of the World Cruise. The Princess Patter (daily guide to events) described the show as.... "a sophisticated afternoon of music and glamour that celebrates the traditions of pop opera and musical theatre" and they were spot on.... it certainly didn't disappoint!
The sun came out for our sailaway up the Brisbane River. There was standing room only on Deck 11 which will make our afternoon drinks very interesting. It was bye bye to Brisbane and bye bye to Australia until we are back in the Spring.
We had a full complement at our dinner table tonight... all 10 of us which I am sure will produce a lot of laughs and memories over the course of the cruise.
The late night show was Danny McMaster who was described as a "Comedy Impressionist". We have seen him before and his impersonations are quite good but that is where he should have stopped.... 20 minutes before he did!!
Another late night as my step count was down so I had to do a number of laps around the decks to get my steps up to 10,000 before retiring for the night. Presently I am averaging 10,000 steps per day.
Tomorrow should see the weather start to warm up!
Another beautiful day on the beautiful Sea Princess.
